  • Event: Friday Night Fireworks
  • Host: Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort
  • Location: Kahanamoku Beach, Waikiki
  • Frequency: Every Friday
  • Start time: 7:45 PM (year-round in recent schedules)
  • Duration: about 10 minutes
  • Cost: free to watch from the beach

The weekly fireworks show in Waikīkī takes place every Friday night at 7:45 PM. It is organized by the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort and has become a regular event for visitors and residents. The display lasts about 10 minutes and ends shortly before 8:00 PM.

Watching the fireworks from the beach is free. No ticket or reservation is required.

Exact location

The fireworks are launched from a floating barge offshore in front of the resort. The barge sits off Duke Kahanamoku Beach, near the entrance of Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon on the west end of Waikiki.

This part of the shoreline is directly in front of the Hilton property. Because the fireworks are launched offshore, the display can be seen from much of the beach area along Waikīkī.

Best viewing locations

Most common viewing spots along the shoreline are:

  1. Duke Kahanamoku Beach – directly in front of the Hilton (closest view).
  2. Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon area – slightly inland but open view.
  3. Fort DeRussy Beach Park – quieter viewing area.
  4. Magic Island, Ala Moana Beach Park– farther west, still visible.
  5. Boat or sunset cruise offshore.

Several areas along the shoreline provide a clear view of the fireworks. The closest location is Duke Kahanamoku Beach, which sits directly in front of the Hilton and faces the launch barge. From here the fireworks appear almost overhead.

A second nearby viewing area is the Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon area. The lagoon itself sits slightly inland from the beach, but the surrounding walkways and sand areas still provide a direct line of sight to the launch point.

Another option is Fort DeRussy Beach Park, which lies east of the Hilton along the Waikīkī shoreline. This beach often has fewer people than the Hilton beachfront but still offers a clear view of the show.

Farther west, visitors sometimes watch from Ala Moana Beach Park or Magic Island. These locations are about a mile (1.5 km) away, but the fireworks are still visible.

Some visitors also watch from boats or sunset cruises offshore, which gives an unobstructed view of the display.

Tips for best experience

  • Arrive early: crowds gather on the beach about 30 minutes before the start.
  • Weather: the show can be cancelled in heavy rain or unsafe conditions.
  • Nearby activity: many visitors attend the Waikiki Starlight Luau at the Hilton before the fireworks, which ends around the same time

The beach areas near the Hilton begin filling with people about 30 minutes before the start time. Many visitors sit on the sand or along the lagoon wall while waiting for the show.

On many Fridays the resort also hosts the Waikiki Starlight Luau earlier in the evening. The luau usually finishes close to the fireworks start time, so guests often move from the event area to the beach to watch the display.

History

The Friday night fireworks began in 1988 during redevelopment of the Hilton Hawaiian Village. The resort introduced the show as a weekly event to mark the start of the weekend in Waikīkī. Over time it became a regular gathering point for people staying in the area and for visitors walking along the beach.
